A Morning In Suffolk

17.07.2010

Managed to get down to Bury St Edmunds the other week and capture a few images around the area following a one to one workshop session. I have been to the Bury St Edmunds area on quite a few workshops this year and I must admit I am really starting to get to know the area and love visiting it for my own photography. There is so much to photograph around the area including the wonderful cathedral and the town of Bury, the picturesque villages of Lavenham & Long Melford and the wonderful windmills of Pakenham & Stanton.

Here are a selection from last weekend, the blue skies were fantastic, but unfortunately the heat and thunder flies were not.

Bury St Edmunds Cathedral
The gardens and lavender was in full bloom and looking great, it was then just a case of waiting until there were no people in the gardens, which was frustrating at times because each time there was a possible shot with nobody in the frame the sun would disappear behind a cloud.

Bury St Edmunds Cathedral
This is an image I have been wanting to capture for some months however due to the position of the sun I have had to wait until June and then visit early enough so the light could not only illuminate both sides of the cathedral it would also help fill in lots of the harsh shadows around the trees.

Pakefield Windmill
I had photographed Pakefield Windmill before however the previous time I captured images of the mill in April the sky was a bit dull. As I was driving past on my way home anyway I thought it would be rude not to stop and grab a few nicer images. The great thing about a really blue sky or a dark stormy sky is the white sails really stand out as opposed to a sky with too much white cloud were the sails just get lost.

Woodbridge Windmill
From Pakenham I made my way towards Woodbridge Windmill

Southwold Windmill
I made my way up the A12 and couldn't resist a quick stop at Southwold, the poppies in the foreground added a nice splash of colour to the image. Once I managed two or three quick shots I made my way home to grab some lunch.
